Joseph Smith ManualWell, when I wrote a while back about being asked to teach Relief Society at the last minute, I didn’t realize that it was an audition!

Yep, I have received a new calling and was sustained and set apart on Sunday as a Relief Society Instructor. I’m very excited! I’m a little nervous, too, but I hope that after a few lessons I’ll get over that. I get to teach once a month (every third Sunday), from the new Joseph Smith Manual. This will be so fun!

I’m jealous. I was just sustained last Sunday as ward organist. I’m still an assistant scoutmaster with the 11-year-old scouts, so I have two callings now. And I’m not really a good enough organist to pull this off without a whole lot of daily practice.

So… are you jealous that I have a super cool calling, or that I get to teach Relief Society ladies, or that I don’t have to practice my calling every day? 🙂

Yes, I’m jealous that you have a super cool calling, or that you get to teach from the Joseph Smith book, or that you don’t have to practice your calling every day.
    🙂
    Those or’s are inclusive.

Well, and I’m happy for both Angie & Russel! Callings are mostly about helping us grow, develop talents, and give Christ-like service. Both of you will get to do all these things in your callings. How wonderful it is that we have a church organization that gives us these chances to step out of our comfort zones and stretch ourselves for the building up of the kingdom! Russel, I have heard you practice and know that you have more talent than you give yourself credit for! You have a great musical “touch” and I think one of the reasons you feel inadequate is because you have such a good musical ear, but that is also exactly what makes you a great choice as an organist. And, Angela, how I wish I could come sit in on one of your lessons! I guess maybe I will have to come visit on one of the Sundays you teach sometime, after you “get your wings” so to speak! Love you both!

I don’t usually leave comments on people’s blogs, but I am a member of Angela’s ward and member of the Relief Society Presidency. So I guess in some far out way you can blame me for her new calling! I do have to say that we are all super excited to have her teach, and I will be forever grateful for her willingness to teach at the very last minute. Plus, Angela is a great choir conductor so I am enjoying that too! Thanks Angela for everything!
