{"id":529,"date":"2008-10-09T13:35:37","date_gmt":"2008-10-09T20:35:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.angieandjim.com\/blog\/?p=529"},"modified":"2008-10-09T13:45:55","modified_gmt":"2008-10-09T20:45:55","slug":"preserving-the-divine-institution-of-marriage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.angieandjim.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/09\/preserving-the-divine-institution-of-marriage\/","title":{"rendered":"Preserving the Divine Institution of Marriage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night we had the opportunity to attend a <a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom.lds.org\/ldsnewsroom\/eng\/news-releases-stories\/church-readies-members-on-proposition-8\" target=\"_blank\">broadcast<\/a> which was distributed to various Stake Centers all over California, as well as a few in Utah.\u00a0 Elder Ballard, Elder Cook, and Elder Clayton (a member of the Presidency of the Seventy) spoke on the importance of protecting and defending the <a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom.lds.org\/ldsnewsroom\/eng\/commentary\/the-divine-institution-of-marriage\" target=\"_blank\">institution and definition of marriage<\/a> against the rising tide of same-sex demands.\u00a0 We were challenged to commit at least four hours per week over the next four weeks to support the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.protectmarriage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yes on Proposition 8 campaign<\/a>, which will define marriage in California as only valid between a man and a woman.<\/p>\n<p>Elder Ballard took some of his time to speak directly to the &#8220;young single and young married adults who are proficient in today&#8217;s techology.&#8221;\u00a0 He pointed out, &#8220;You text, blog, Google, twitter, ping, and write on your walls&#8230; I would have been sent to my room for doing some of those things in my day!.&#8221;\u00a0 It was very fun to hear him praise the talents and efforts of my generation, and encourage us to use our unique grasp of technology to spread the word in support of Proposition 8 with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.preservingmarriage.org\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">new website developed by the church<\/a> about marriage, families, civil rights, and tolerance.\u00a0 My favorite quote of the evening, was from Elder Cook &#8211;
